A Living Art Collection Across Time and Space

The art collection at Romegas Hotel brings together a selection of works by Maltese and Malta-based artists, positioned within a building that dates back to 1753. Rather than functioning as a discrete layer, the collection is embedded within the architectural and historical fabric of the site, creating a continuous dialogue between past and present.

The ground floor presents the most concentrated curatorial response, where works engage directly with the spatial and material conditions of the building. Here, site-specific interventions respond to the structure’s history and atmosphere, establishing the conceptual foundation of the collection.

Across the upper floors, the collection unfolds through a combination of site-specific works and pieces drawn from existing bodies of work. This approach allows for a broader reading of the collection, one that moves between direct spatial engagement and more autonomous artistic expressions.

Titled WAS/NOW, the collection reflects an ongoing consideration of time, continuity, and transformation, situating contemporary artistic practice within a historically charged environment.
